Ultra Low Emission Zone Guidance

What is the ULEZ?

Ultra-Low Emission Zone came into force on April 8th 2019. The ULEZ operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the same area as the Congestion charge.

What are the daily costs?

  • Motorcycles, cars and vans up to and including 3.5 tonne will be charged £12.50 a day.
  • Trucks over 3.5 tonne, and buses over 5 tonne will be charged £100 a day.

Does the charge apply to everybody?

It can depend on when the vehicle was registered. Some diesel vehicles registered before 2015 and petrol cars registered before 2006 will be charged. To avoid penalty charges or paying unnecessarily check online https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone

 

Who is Exempt?

  • Any registered vehicle with the disabled tax class (only until October 26th 2025.
  • Residents who are registered with the Residential Congestion Charge discount scheme are exempt for a limit time to enable them to change their vehicle.
  • London-licensed taxis
