Hiring a vehicle? You need a DVLA Code

Written by Traci Clayton on 30th January 2016

As from the 8th June 2015 all those wishing to hire a vehicle will have to produce a code from the DVLA

The following information is given as guidance and drivers can already check their driving record online at Gov.uk.

From the 8th June points will be stored online and not added to the paper licence. This means if you are hiring a vehicle you will need to request a code from the DVLA. You can do this via the new Share Driving Licence online service at Gov.uk or by calling the DVLA on 0300 790 6801.

You will need to provide your driving licence number, National Insurance Number and the postcode on your driving licence.

The code provided by the DVLA will be valid for 21 days (from 10th July 2015). We advice that you print off the PDF download of your licence, and bring it with you as a precaution, along with the code provided by the DVLA.

We are legally required to check all driving licences prior to any rental, those failing to following these procedures may be prevented from hiring at Long Marsh Ltd.

You are still required to bring with you, your driving licence, photo ID and 2 utility bills to confirm your address.

If you require any further information regarding our services, please contact your local branch of Long Marsh Ltd.
